About

A little about me…

I work in IT. I say I push buttons for a living – which isn’t a lie – but there is a little more to it than that.

I enjoy mucking around with ICT of (almost) all forms – but I have a particular interest in virtualisation and networking.

  • Virtualisation is just cool – the idea of having not just multiple tasks running on a computer – but multiple machines is something I still find a little trippy. That said – it is mighty useful. I mainly use VMware hypervisors – so that’s where I get to play, but I have nothing against the other platforms – Xen/MS HyperV are both admirable products. My ideal capability to add to a VM host – the ability to “KVM” to running hosts on the server itself. VMWare’s ESX only has a basic config screen (which is great for changing network settings – but having access to the locally-running VM’s would be fantastic). Better yet – allow outputs to be mapped to various connections – if you have multiple graphics outputs, have multiple displays!

  • Networking is potentially even cooler.. having multiple people, computers and tasks all linked allows you to do some very cool things – just take the fact you can browse this page over the interenet – You’re linked to a PC in Australia, but you could be anywhere – on my couch, at your house, in New Zealand, the US, Norway, the UK, Antarctica, the moon – anywhere! It just involves networks extending far enough.I certainly don’t understand everything about either of these topics – but I enjoy working in, with and around these technologies to solve problems – whether for myself, my friends, family, work, or others.

There are more areas I’ll probably cover in this site – but essentially those are the interests that sparked the birth of this site- especially ways to make them more accessable for home-users.

For the interested – if you want more info on myself (not sure why you’d want to – but so be it!), have a look at my website. That is where that information can be found.

This site has a different purpose – hopefully, to help you learn from my successes, mistakes, and ideas, and make you more successful in your endeavours!

Regards.
